Simone ten Hompel : Three Dimensional Traces: Gallery S O London

5 February - 5 April 2015
Overview

"Traces have a notion of someone having been there.  Traces convey memory, or demarcate or simply leave a mark.  Traces can be read and interpreted, however that meaning depends on who is reading the stuffness."

Simone ten Hompel, 2014

The pieces investigate mark making through the third dimension and colour.  Shapes and marks are embossed and overlaid into the metal, which in itself becomes the provider of pigments, texture and content.

These shallow but wide objects play off the notion of holding and carrying, or simply keeping safe; a rim is a border, a dimple is the holder.  These can be filled or merely left empty.
